Crypto Liquidity Pool & Impermanent Loss Calculator
Pool share, matched token amount and impermanent loss in one pass
Crypto Liquidity Pool & Impermanent Loss Calculator: price a proportional constant-product deposit — your pool share, the token B amount you must match and the price you are effectively paying — then measure impermanent loss against simply holding both tokens, net of the fee APR your position earns over the holding period.
How Impermanent Loss Works
A constant-product pool holds two reserves, x and y, whose product stays fixed while trades move along the curve. The price of token A quoted by the pool is simply y/x, and a deposit has to arrive in that same ratio or the pool rebalances it for you. Your pool share is your share of token A divided by the reserve plus your share — that fraction of every fee the pool earns from that moment on.
Impermanent loss is the gap between holding the LP position and holding both tokens untouched. If token A moves by a factor r relative to token B, the position is worth 2√r/(1+r) − 1 relative to holding: −5.72% after a doubling or a halving, −0.11% after a 10% move, and zero if price never moves. It is called impermanent only while you expect price to come back — withdraw at the new price and the difference is realised.
Fees are the offset. Trading fees accrue to liquidity providers continuously, so this calculator adds fee APR × days / 365 to the raw loss. A position sitting 2.02% behind holding over 90 days is ahead once a 10% fee APR contributes 2.47% — that trade-off between fee income and divergence is the entire decision of providing liquidity.
Swaps against the pool move its price. A trade of size Δ against a reserve of R costs Δ/(R+Δ) of the spot price before the swap fee, which is why large trades in thin pools pay materially more than the quote suggests — the same constant-product curve that sets your deposit price.
Two limits worth remembering. The loss is measured in pool units, so a token that collapses against the other drags the position down even when the impermanent loss term stays small, and single-sided exits leave you holding whatever the pool has left. Gas to enter and exit, and the tax consequence of every rebalance, sit outside this number.
